Goals and Objectives 2005-2008
GOAL 1: Promote the intellectual, physical,
aesthetic, social and emotional development of each student through instruction
and related experiences.
1.1 Use data to evaluate programs with the goal of increasing student achievement
1.2 Assess the impact of student services on student achievement
1.3 Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, provide enrichment, and offer
opportunities for student acceleration
1.4 Implement consistent strategies/assessments in reading in grades 4-8
1.5 Review, revise or develop curriculum guides in all content areas PreK-12 including
Health and the Arts PreK-6
1.6 Support the implementation of the district curricula PreK-12
1.7 Analyze data of at-risk/struggling students and make appropriate adjustments to their
educational programs
1.8 Strengthen the process of student assessment and the reporting systems
1.9 Integrate technology for all students into all content areas in accordance with
1.10 Maintain care plans; verify and update immunizations as appropriate
1.11 Develop a Wellness Policy as required by the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act
(PL 108-265), the federal law funding school lunches
1.12 Strengthen the links between after-school and school-day programs
1.13 Build social skills in students through curriculum, counseling and mediation and
expand/sustain the implementation of Second Step at the elementary level
GOAL 2: Promote a professional development philosophy
that encourages and supports best teaching practices to enhance instruction and
learning
2.1 Ensure through observation, evaluation and student data that instruction and
assessment mirrors best research-based and/or developmentally appropriate practices
2.2 Ensure through observation and assessment that students’ work reflects best instructional
practices
2.3 Develop a new teacher evaluation model for grades PreK-12 that supports teachers in
achieving best teaching practices
2.4 Schedule opportunities for teachers to observe their peers in the classroom for the purpose
of showing instructional methods and promoting collaboration
2.5 Incorporate research on learning and the brain into professional development, instruction
and assessment
2.6 Provide professional development opportunities to support every teacher in every grade
and subject area as a teacher of reading and writing
2.7 Provide training in emerging technologies to enhance instruction and assessment and
support student learning
2.8 Encourage participation of administrators and teachers in national and regional
conferences
GOAL 3: Demonstrate fiscal responsibility and
stewardship over all assets
3.1 Prepare, monitor and implement balanced budgets
3.2 Continue to present clearly detailed budget proposals to various boards and the community
3.3 Review and modify the existing bookkeeping process
3.4 Develop a manual documenting financial procedures
3.5 Maintain appropriate funding for programs
3.6 Pursue outside funds actively to support the instructional process
3.7 Develop/update comprehensive maintenance plans for facilities and grounds
3.8 Develop site specific plans to maintain and upgrade technology
GOAL 4: Strengthen community support for schools and
expand the schools’ service to the community
4.1 Expand students’ community awareness, community projects and school-to-work
programs
4.2 Maintain relationships with community coalitions
4.3 Expand and use district and school websites to communicate with the community
4.4 Increase community use of school facilities and document building use by community
groups
4.5 Develop plans for use of local education
channel
4.6 Coordinate and promote parent involvement efforts
4.7 Promote the use of e-mail to communicate
with parents
4.8 Increase involvement with business partners
4.9 Increase school volunteerism by community members
